Participant Information

All applicants who comply with prerequisites set out in the general rules and who are eligible in terms of minimum level and age etc will be accepted as SICMF participants.

The SICMF is open to participants between the ages of 12 and 28.
The minimum required level for instrumentalists is grade 6. All entrants will receive chamber music coaching and, with the exception of pianists, will play in a Festival orchestra. Orchestral placement will be determined by pre-recorded auditions (see website for more details). Participants can enrol individually or as an established chamber music group, in which case they may also be required to perform in other ensembles. Each and every individual in an established group is required to enter individually. Such persons should indicate on the online entry form that they are entering as a group.

All participants are bound by a code of conduct as prescribed by Stellenbosch University. This code prohibits disorderly behaviour as a result of intoxication. Any and all transgressors will be asked to leave the SICMF without compensation and with immediate effect.

Entry Fees 

R6600.00 This includes meals, accommodation, coachings and access to all SICMF events and concerts

OR

R4000.00 This includes coachings and access to all SICMF events and concerts

Participants can request to be collected/dropped off at the airport or bus stop at R100 per one-way trip.

A maximum of 280 entries will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.
CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES: 17 MAY 2024 (No late entries or payments will be accepted) All applicants who comply with prerequisites set out in the general rules and who are eligible in terms of minimum level and age etc will be accepted as SICMF participants.

Due to financial constraints, bursaries can only be awarded to South African citizens or foreign students registered at a South African University and resident in South Africa.

A completed application to the SICMF must be received by the closing date. Those who wish to apply for a bursary must include a bursary motivation with the entry. This must detail the student’s current financial situation and therefore demonstrate need. Bursaries are awarded on merit and availability of funds. Decisions taken by the SICMF management in this regard are final.

DEADLINE FOR BURSARY APPLICATIONS: 3 May 2024
All bursary applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by 10 MAY 2024.

Unsuccessful bursary applicants will be given until 17 MAY 2024 to make payment thus securing participation after which the names of applicants that have neither paid nor been granted a bursary will be deleted from the participant list forthwith.

Clearly indicate “SICMF and your surname” as a reference on all payments made electronically or by bank deposit.

Accommodation in student hostels under adult supervision (for minors) will be provided. Accommodation will only be provided for the period 5 July to 14 July (out on 15 July). Those who have selected the accommodation option will receive meals at a student hostel especially selected for this purpose. Whereas we will cater for vegetarians, those who require Halaal and Kosher meals will need to purchase them at their own expense at selected food outlets in the Neelsie Student Centre. Participants can request to be collected/dropped off at the airport or bus stop at R100 per one-way trip.

The Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival will no longer conduct auditions for placing in either the Festival Symphony Orchestra or the Festival Concert Orchestra on the first day of the Festival.
